FAQ cosmetic surgery of the nates

Q. I’ve read in a newspaper that it is possible to lift the nates by implanting prostheses. I would like to know if this kind of cosmetic surgery actually exists and if the result is long-lasting.
A. The volume increase and the lifting of the nates can be achieved through a cosmetic surgery operation which consists in implanting silicone gel prostheses (similar to those used in additive mastoplasty) or in transferring adipose tissue (fat) taken from a part of your body (lipofilling).
The prostheses used in the surgery that increases the volume of the nates are made up by an external silicone cover and an internal part with silicone gel.
Most manufacturers guarantee the implants for about ten years, after which they recommend to replace them in order to prevent any deformation or deflation of the implants due to their use.

Q. I’ m 25 and my bottom is completely flat. I’ve heard that it is possible to shape the nates thanks to new prostheses, but also that the operation is painful. Is it true? And how are the prostheses implanted?
A. Actually, the cosmetic surgery that increases the volume of the nates allows the improvement of the shape and the volume of a completely flat bottom by implanting silicone gel prostheses similar to those used for breast augmentation, which are fitted through an incision made in the intergluteal fold.
The scars will not be visible in that they will be hidden in the gluteal folds.
The operation can be performed under loco-regional anaesthetic with sedation or under general anaesthetic, but the post-operative period is very painful because the prostheses are implanted, through an incision, inside the gluteal muscle and not, as it happens in additive mastoplasty, above or under the pectoral muscle. However, the pain can be kept under control by effective analgesic drugs.

Q. Is it true that gluteal implants tend to move with the passing of time?
A. Just like the implants used in other kinds of cosmetic surgery (additive mastoplasty, calf augmentation), the implants used by the surgery that increases the volume of the nates may sometimes suffer from a complication called “dislocation” or displacement, which occurs when the implant moves from the pouch in which it was placed or rotates, changing its position. This complication is very rare in additive mastoplasty, but it is more likely to occur in the surgery that increases the volume of the nates, because this part of the body is subject to a different kind of strains.
