FAQ cellulite
Q. What is cellulite?
A. The term “cellulite” is commonly used to indicate a condition characterized by “orange peel” skin which, sometimes, presents subcutaneous nodular growths, painful to the touch. Therefore, cellulite is not localized depot fat (the so-called “pad” or “roll of fat”), but some sort of degeneration of skin tissue, often combined with troubles of water retention.
Q. Can liposuction eliminate cellulite?
A The term “cellulite” is commonly used to indicate a condition characterized by “orange peel” skin which, sometimes, presents bulges resulting from troubles of water retention or subcutaneous nodes painful to the touch. Thus, cellulite is something different from the so-called “pads”, that is depot fat localized in some specific areas of the body (abdomen, sides, nates, thighs, knees, etc.). Liposuction and liposculpture allow the body to be sculpted and contoured by removing the undesired depot fat (pads), but they are not useful for eliminating nor improving cellulite. Instead. there are medical treatments such as mesotherapy, electrolipolysis, ionophoresis, etc. which, if performed regularly and in association with a balanced diet, can improve the appearance of cellulitic skins (without anyhow removing cellulite completely!). Finally, there are some kinds of mechanical treatments, such as the lymphatic drainage massage and the new LPG-Endermologie, which can be very useful for improving cellulite and speeding up the recovery from liposuction surgery.
